Local BMSA Rules

NO JEWELLERY. Jewellery cannot be worn during play, with the exception of medical alerts.

Uniform change for the 2024 season - Shorts are NOT allowed to be worn for games or practices for any player in U9 and above. Team Jersey must be worn at all times for games.

All pitchers must wear a face mask. In lieu of a face mask, the pitcher may wear their batting helmet.

Pitching update: Only players who have been identified as pitchers and/or have taken part in a pitching clinic will be allowed to pitch. We want to encourage those interested in pitching and assist in developing their skill.

We also want to advance the gameplay to keep players' attention and focus. We will be instituting the pitching rule from OSSTA for the U9 division. When a pitcher has pitched 4 balls (consecutively or not), the Coach will step in and pitch the number of strikes the batter has left in the count. Ex.) Batter has 4 balls pitched but only has 1 strike against them. The batter will then get 2 pitches from the coach. If the batter swings and misses on both pitches, the batter is out. There are no walks at the U9 division.

NO Base Stealing, Wild pitches and pass balls included. Leadoffs are allowed after a pitched ball crosses home plate. Runners may only take a maximum of 2 bases. Ex.) batter hits a ball into the outfield and is able to run home before the defensive team returns the ball to the infield. The batter has to stop at 2nd base. They will be returned to 2nd base if they advance further.

All Batters/Baserunners/On deck Batters MUST wear a helmet with a face guard with a fastened chin strap.

Overthrows: Any overthrown ball that contacts the fence (or fence line) shall be declared a dead ball. Runners may advance 1 base only. This applies to 1st, 3rd, and home plate.

Games will begin at 6:30. Teams may play with 8 players without penalty. The game will continue if 7 players are present, but the 8th batting position is an automatic out. The game is drop dead at 8 pm.

5 runs maximum per inning

Run Ahead Rule (Mercy Rule): The game is complete if a team leads by 15 or more runs after 3 innings.

All players on the roster will bat in the lineup. Note: not all batters will bat in a single inning. U9 division does not have all batters hit in an inning.

Base distance: 45 feet

Pitching distance: 30 feet
